DR IFEDI OKONKWO Ifedi hails from Iruowelle, Awka-Etiti in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Born last of all his siblings, Ifedi set out early with a streak of excellent academic performances through primary and secondary schools. In 1986, he gained admission into the prestigious University of Lagos to read Medicine and Surgery, having completed secondary education at the Bishop Crowther Junior Seminary, Awka. On graduation from medical school, Ifedi proceeded to do his housemanship at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, until 1994 when he was deployed to Rivers State for the mandatory National Youth Service, rendering medical service at Ubima community. On completion of Youth Service the following year, he had a stint of general private practice with a few private hospitals in Lagos State. In 2000, he returned to the Lagos University Teaching hospital for postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Ifedi’s journey through residency was characteristically swift, with first-time successes in both Colleges through Primaries and Part I examinations. In 2005, he was awarded the West African Fellowship in the College of Surgeons, faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. After residency training, he proceeded into private medical practice in the FCT. He had held consultancy positions at the Daughters of Charity Mission Hospital, Kubwa and Fereprod Medical Centre, Garki prior to joining DIFF Hospital as consultant obstetrician-gynaecologist in 2010. Beyond medical practice, Ifedi has deep love for meaningful music, especially gospel, jazz and classical genres, within which he has garnered a few compositions and arrangements of his own. He also has expert skill and passion in database development, management and health informatics. He currently leads the development, implementation and maintenance of the prestigious SwiftPractice EMR which runs DIFF Hospital’s electronic medical record system.
